Give us today our bread

It is Friday and time to pray for Suubi Teen MOPS in Uganda. It has been another week of extremes. It began with Sylvia telling me about a neighbors yams being stolen out of the garden. The neighbor screamed as their yams where being stolen. A mob of men chased the man who had stolen the yams and literally beat him to death. Nothing will be done to this mob. A man was beaten to death for stealing yams. But the local leaders who have the task of distributing food to hungry people in the community still make excuses why they have not given away food. How long are people supposed to survive on nothing? They are locked down, unable to work, and not given any support. And in areas where food is being distributed, the women are being sexually harassed. Reports have surfaced that women are being asked for sex in exchange for government food. The World Food Program (part of the UN) announced this week that they are very short on funding. And they expect the worst famine in the past 100 years. As things are very bad now, they expect things to get worse. 25 million people in Africa are at risk of starvation. And what is tragic still, is no one is really looking at Africa. The needs of the Corvid 19, and western economy are so great, who will consider Africa? A decade of poverty elimination is being whipped out in a few short months. It is hard to not feel distressed. But within this awful situation, Suubi is still ok. Our women have food. They still have the funds to buy a shop. They still own a goat herd that is growing. Our actual situation has not gotten worse. So please pray for our women not to fear. Within this situation, God has not forgotten them. Please pray they can remain calm. We do not know if the school will begin as scheduled. Right now they are considering doing school online and over the TV. The problem with this is our families have no TVs or computers. They do not have electricity. And our moms are uneducated. They can not help their kids with school work. The laws and rules are being driven by the rich. They do not understand poverty in their nation. They do not know how poor Uganda is. So please pray schools can begin again, in person. The only new COVID 19 cases have been truck drivers coming from Kenya and Tanzania. They only have 61 cases total, and most of these have been recovered. There have been zero community spread cases in the country. They are holding the entire country hostage. People need to work and go to school. We are going to see riots and civil war. Please pray schools and work can continue. Please continue to pray for the safety and health of our women. The good news is we had no medical costs in March and April. We had to pay for an operation in February. The operation used up 4 months of our medical budget. But by the grace of God, we have had no medical costs in March and April. So please pray this will continue. Finally, pray for opportunities for our women going forward. We have applied for many grants. All of this sort of thing has been placed on hold. But Suubi needs money to continue as an organization. We are grateful for every donation, but we would like very much to win grants to make washable sanitary pads for school girls, and to host another sewing school, to teach more groups of women to make soap and to invest in an agricultural school. In the village. The entire world is so crazy, but we are still focused on what we hope to do. And we need grant funding. So please pray that the grants will come even in this chaos. Here is a link to a report called the cost of Hunger in Uganda. All of East Africa faces famine. We hope to continue to support our women and children so they will not suffer. But so many are in need of prayer and intervention. https://www.yumpu.com/…/the-cost-of-hunger-in-uganda-depart…
